Carroll College Hunthausen Activity Center
An extensive Mind, Body, and Spirit fundraising campaign was launched by Carroll College to generate interest in funding needed facilities at the school. Carroll College students helped push the need for a recreation center for students and faculty as the nucleus of the “Body” portion of the campaign. Seen as a key need on campus and a key factor that prospective students look for in higher education, the campaign for a new Hunthausen Activity Center gained steam quickly. Early concepts were driven by active participation of the student body during design charrettes. Located on the north side of campus, the design is modern and contemporary yet pays tribute to the historic aspects of the campus. Walking into the Great Hall the historic Saint Charles Hall is framed in an expansive glass wall that opens up to a large outdoor plaza and the football practice field. The 25,000 sq ft building is achieved LEED certification through the use of high efficiency mechanical units, day-lighting, and use of local materials.
