Our History.

DOWLING Architects is a multi-generational, family-owned business with deep Montana roots. The founder and principal Helena native, Mike Dowling, graduated from Capital High School. After earning his architecture degree with highest honors at MSU-Bozeman, he spent his early career working for one of the world’s largest architectural firms, RTKL Associates in Baltimore, Maryland. Knowing that he ultimately wanted to start his own practice in Montana, Mike moved his family back to Helena.

The business has grown and changed throughout the years and has become a staple in the community of Helena. In 2021, The firm relocated to its new headquarters on historic Last Chance Gulch and has loved being located in the heart of downtown.
